Carl Russell “Rusty” Cooper, Jr. age 60 of Cabins, WV passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026 result of an ATV accident on his farm.
Rusty was born on April 14, 1965 in Baltimore, MD and was the son of the late Carl R. “Buzz” Cooper, Sr and Peggy L. (Harman) Cooper. In addition to his parents, Rusty was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Arlyn Haslacker.
Rusty is survived by his wife, Tina (Hesse) Cooper; four sons, David Cooper (Nathan) of Petersburg, WV, Quentin Cooper (Chelsea) of Augusta, WV, Dalton Cooper of Cabins, WV and Greg Wells (Megan) of Maysville, WV; two grandchildren, Aaliyah Goldizen and Annabeth Cooper; one sister, Rebecca Haslacker of Petersburg, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Rusty was a 1983 graduate of Petersburg High School and was active in baseball, basketball and football. He attended Fairmont State College for baseball. He was a poultry farmer and a bus driver for the Grant County Board of Education for 25 years. He coached multiple sports with Grant County Little League and Petersburg Junior and High School. Rusty umpired boys baseball and girls softball over the years. Rusty was a member of Cornerstone Family Fellowship in Petersburg.
Rusty loved the outdoors and the family farm. He was known for his cooking and baking.
Rusty’s family will receive friends Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 4 – 8 PM at Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, WV.
Funeral service will be Friday, February 13, 2026 at 3:00 PM at Cornerstone Family Fellowship with Pastor P. J. Landes officiating.
Interment will be in Lahmansville Cemetery.
